Motor Kit Installation Tips

2 Cycle Engine Similarities

2 Cycle VS 4 Cycle
Motor Kit Installation Tips
If yo are in the process of installing your first China made 2 cycle engine kit, here are a few tips to consider:
  • It's extremely important that you use a bicycle with enough frame space to fit your enigne. Most 26 inch beach cruiser bikes are suitable. Single speed (coaster brake) bikes typically have less space between the rear wheel axle, so chain and sprockets are a close fit. Multi speed bikes will fit easier, and bikes with front and rear v-brakes are more dependable than coaster brakes for stopping.
  • Lots of V-Frame (non beach cruiser) bikes are also very suitable, including a few mountain bikes. As a general rule, the space within the seat tube should be at least 12 inches from the bottom to the top, and the space perpendicular from the center of the seat tube toward the front be at least 11 inches.
All of our engine kits include a complete step by step instructional ebook ($14.95 value) downloadable, or printed (your choice).

2 Cycle Engine Similarities
The trend of 2 cycle China made motorized bicycle engines is not very new in the US, but due to the seemingly sudden and repid explosive increase in the number of engine kits, a wide variety of of new designs and upgrades are available.
Earlier (pre 2005) kits were usually all 49cc or less, and a few 66cc kits were prevalent. Now adays there are many 50cc kits, and some being paraded around as 70cc, and some even being called an 80cc engine.  The 70cc kits are usually about the same displacement and size as the "so-called" 80cc kits.
The physical size of the 49 and 50cc kits are slight smaller than the 70/80cc ones. Upgrades in the engine kits include:
- steel roller wrist pin bearings- instead of bushing,
- Slightly larger crank rod bearings
- Slightlly larger intake and exhaust ports
- Extra fins for more efficient cooling
- Steel lined cylinder walls
- EPA Standard Emission Control catalitic mufflers
- Chrome-moly pistons & push button clutch lever (among others)

2 Cycle VS 4 Cycle
In the last couple years, there have been a new production of 4 cycle engine kits imported into the US. Since 4 cycle (4 stroke) engines burn cleaner than 2 cycle engines, these were meant to meet stringent EPA standards which were being strictly enforced during the 2006 era,
The 4 cycle engines are made by some "off-brand" China manufacturers, but ran very well and proved comparable to the famous Honda® brand. The gear train of some of these kits, however did not hold up well, but improvements are being made. Here at PowerPedal.net, we sell only the procucts that have been tried and trued.
 4-Cycle engines:
- require oil in the crankcase instead of mixing oil with the gas.
- Since their operation is not simple like the 2 -cycles, they are much mure bulky and require more space to install.
- They run cleaner with less emissions
2-Cycle engines:
- no need for oil changes. just mix it with the gas
- Operates on simple 2 stroke principle, therefore it's smaller and gives     more power to the pound
- Emits more polution (Nox) than 4-Cycle engines.
- Noise leve = about the same for both (approx 60-70 dBA)
